FESTA workshop held with CARTRE initiative

L3Pilot and partners of the CARTRE (→external link) initiative held a workshop on the FESTA methodology in Athens on May 17, 2018. 15 experts met exchanging experiences of FESTA use and non-use by industry and discussing the adaption of the developed FESTA methodology to L3Pilot purposes and more generally to automated driving trials.

The European project FESTA developed a methodology for conducting Field Operational Tests in 2008. It provides a systematic research-oriented approach to define FOTs, agreed upon by a large consortium. It was maintained and updated by FOT-Net – 3 support actions in the years 2008 to 2016. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and Nomadic Devices are in the focus of the methodology. Later updates also included Naturalistic Driving Studies and Cooperative Systems. The methodology is widely used in national and European projects.

The main outcomes of the workshop are that FESTA methodology is not that well-known by the industry even though its logics is applied intuitively. Agile approach should also be combined to FESTA to make it more flexible and shorter.
